Sea Angling
Sea angling trips are made from the small-boat pier in Dalvík. Angling begins after a short run, and it can be exciting when the fish are biting. All angling equipment is provided on the boat. The trip takes 2½ hours, and a minimum of 6 participants are required. A pleasure cruise is also available from Dalvík including a grill in a small bay with sheer rock sides in the western part of the island of Hrísey, a short distance from the village. The boating company Sjóferðir has built facilities there for grilling meat dishes or the fish caught by anglers on the way out. Those who wish can have a look round the island while the meal is cooking.

Fresh Water Angling
The river Ólafsfjarðará is popular with trout fishermen. Six rods are allowed each day, two in each of three stretches of the river. The trout swim up-river from the sea, first into the lake and then on up the river. The first migrations up-river each year take place after the middle of July. Licences must be purchased from the Ólafsfjarðará Angling Society; information is available from the hotel. The hotel offers trout fishing in the lake during the summers for a small fee. Anglers go out in rowing boats, and there is normally good fishing to be had.
Fishing from the pier is popular everywhere in Iceland; in Ólafsfjörður it is particularly so with children and catches can often be both sizeable and varied.
